The Debut of Hakone Kowakien Ten-yu: A New and Unique Japanese “Onsen” Resort

April 24, 2017, Tokyo – Leading Japanese hospitality company Fujita Kanko Inc. announced the opening of Hakone Kowakien Ten-yu, the newest addition to its resort portfolio in Hakone, Japan, a popular hot spring (onsen) destination near Mount Fuji.

Ten-yu, which opened on April 20th, is an upscale onsen resort blending the best of East and West: traditional ambiance and modern convenience with tranquil serenity and varied activities. The resort’s most unique feature is that all 150 Japanese-style rooms have private open-air hot spring baths overlooking the breathtaking scenery. Most of the rooms have beds, and can accommodate additional guests with futons. The décor combines Japanese aesthetics with stylish simplicity. Each of six Japanese suites was uniquely designed with a special theme. The suites also offer in-room dining.

The resort facilities include a spa, a restaurant and bar/lounge and two large hot spring facilities, one of which has an open-air “Infinity” bath. Built on Fujita Kanko’s Hakone Kowakien resort complex, guests also have access to other dining and leisure facilities, including Soba Kihinkan, a Japanese soba noodle restaurant; Teppanyaki Geihinkan, a high-end Japanese steakhouse; Hakone Kowakien Yunessun, a hot spring-themed amusement park; and Horaien Park, a renowned botanical garden. Kihinkan and Geihinkan occupy cultural heritage buildings recognized for their beautiful architecture.

To maximize guest experience, Ten-yu also set up a concierge team to fully meet the needs of its international guests and help them enjoy the area. Working with local experts, it can arrange local activities such as arts & crafts, sports and cultural experiences.

Typical accommodation plans start at 33,000 yen/guest, including breakfast and dinner, based on two guests. For more information and reservation, visit: http://www.hakone-tenyu.com

Hakone, approximately a 2-hour drive/train ride from Tokyo, has been designated a Japanese Geopark, and also features numerous tourist attractions around the area, including many museums. Fujita Kanko has been a major resort developer and operator in Hakone for over 60 years.
