Fireflies have been honored in Japanese culture for over a thousand years as a symbol of the beauty of early summer. Each year from late May to early July, Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo's lush botanical garden welcomes thousands of twinkling fireflies, an extremely rare sight in Tokyo. “We keep the eggs in an incubator, then return the larvae to the garden’s creek where they were laid.” said Tetsu Motomura, the hotel’s General Manager. “We take this job very seriously to ensure our garden remains the magical oasis of Tokyo.”
